The RIGID DC Condensing Unit is a compact refrigeration system that uses a direct expansion (DX) method, where the refrigerant cools the desired area directly through a cold plate. This eliminates the need for a secondary coolant loop, making the system more efficient and space-saving.

The DC Condensing Unit uses an expansion valve or capillary tube to control the flow of refrigerant into the evaporator coil. As hot air is blown over the coil by the evaporator fan, the refrigerant inside absorbs the heat, causing it to expand and cool the air. This lowers the temperature of the air being circulated into the space.

In a direct cooling system, the cooling water directly flows into the internal pipes of a building. In an indirect cooling system, a heat exchanger separates the internal cooling system from the external one, with a fluid being used to transfer heat between the two systems.

The main difference between a DX (Direct Expansion) system and a chilled water system is that the DX system cools the air directly, while a chilled water system cools water, which is then used to cool air or other systems in the building.

The expansion valve reduces the pressure of the liquid refrigerant, allowing it to expand and change from a liquid to a gas in the evaporator. This process is key to the cooling effect in refrigeration systems.
